Daniel's Big Australian Holiday!

  Day 53 - Saturday - 11/7/2026 Today we released our mantis and then drove to Burunkguy were we set up and then drove over the extremely corrugated gravel road to Gunlom Falls. We had lunch and then walked over to the bottom plunge pool at the huge waterfall; we couldn’t swim there though because there might be crocs in the water. Gunlom Falls Then we climbed a tiring 500 metres up to the top of the waterfall where we went for a swim in the refreshing water. There was a small waterfall with warm water gushing down it onto our backs, there were also a few deep cracks in the rocks at the bottom of the waterfall were that we dropped rocks down into to see how deep they were.  Simming under the waterfall We also swan near a small drop into another pool of water witch then dropped the 500 metres down to the ground but from where my dad took the picture you would have thought it was a much bigger drop. Day 51 - Thursday - 9/7/2026 Today we drove to Anbangbang Billabong which was WAY better than the last billabong we went to because there were actually birds there, we saw a new bird called a Green Pygmy Goose and we also saw a croc.  Then we went on a walk to the Nanguluwurr art site. The first 1.55km of the walk was pointless and just through the scrub and they could have put the carpark a whole lot closer. After that boring part we had to climb three hundred metres to get to the Aboriginal rock art. There were lots of different aboriginal painting, there was one of a ship and some more of fish and other stuff.  Then we drove to Burrungkuy were we looked at some more Aboriginal rock art like the lightning man and some other people; we also walked ap to another lookout. The walk around the art was very scenic, going through narrow gaps in the escarpment. Tonight we had dinner at the resort restaurant, and I had a Chicken schnitzel.  Day 49 - Tuesday - 7/7/2026 Today we drove from Coroboree to Jabiru where we went for a swim and made a super strong whirlpool with some other kids, my brother Seb also caught a praying Mantis that we made an enclosure for. We also had a frog in it, but we realised the mantis might eat it Day 50 - Wednesday - 8/7/2026 This morning my family woke up at 6:30 to do to Mamukala Wetland because we were told it was good for birdwatching. Well, they were completely wrong, all we saw was an Egret and Mosquitos.  Where'd the birds go?!?  Day 48 - Monday - 6/7/2026 Today we left Howard springs and drove to Coroboree, at Coroboree we went for a swim and then drove to the Coroboree Billabong where we went on a relaxing sunset cruise. Before we started the cruise the guy told us not to stick our arms out the side of the boat or a croc might jump up and take your arm out. The cruise went through multiple billabongs where we looked at the wildlife, we mostly saw birds, but we also saw some crocs, wallabies and water buffalos. Here are some animals I saw:  Water Buffalo Little Heron Black-neck Stalk/Jabiru Sea Eagle Saltwater Crocodile Nankeen Night Heron Snake-necked Darter Towards the end for the trip, we watched the magnificent sunset, and we also saw a guy catch a pretty big fish.  Day 46 - Saturday - 4/7/2026 This morning we went to Fogg Dam where we saw a bunch of different wetland birds like magpie geese.  Magpie Goose Because Fog Dam was a tropical wetland there were a lot of wading birds like darters and egrets. We drove over the dam slowly looking at different birds and at the end of the dam we went onto a lookout were there were hundreds of whistling ducks.  Pied Herron Plumed Egret Darter drying it's wings Sacred Kingfisher There were hundreds of plumed whistling ducks Then went to the croc jumping tour where we got on the boat and watched the Saltwater Crocodiles jumping up for some food on a stick.  This little croc was called Fonzie There were a lot of crocodiles some big some small, the tour guide said that it's estimated around 7 thousand crocodiles in the Adelade River.  Day 44 - Thursday - 2/7/2026 Today we went to the mall in Darwin where I had some Chinese food for lunch. We bought some supplies and then went to the Mindel Beach markets where we bought some stuff, walked to the lookout and I also shared a Hawaiian pizza with my mom for dinner while we watched the sunset on the beach. Watching the sunset   For dessert we also bought some delicious poffertjes which are like mini pancakes. Day 45 - Friday - 3/7/2026 Today i woke up early with my brother Seb so we could go with my dad to drop Auntie Kathie of for her day tour of Kakadu. Once we dropped Kathie off, we went to Charles Darwin National Park to look at some birds. It was a bit disappointing though because the walk didn't even go into the mangroves even though they were right there. At the end we went to a lookout where we got some pretty good views of the city centre.  View from the lookout On the drive back home, we stopped at what we thought were some WW2 bomb shelters that ...

 Day 43 - Wednesday - 1/7/2026 Today we left Batchelor and drove to Darwin, on the way we stopped at the Territory Wildlife Park. The first thing we did was catch a van to the pelican feeding. The man fed the Pelicans some fish for breakfast and the pelicans started fighting each other for it.  Pelicans waiting for fish Then we caught the train to the flight deck to watch the free-flight bird show. None of the birds were the same as the ones in the show at allice springs except for the black-breasted buzzard. They showed a Bustard, an Emu, a Black-necked Stalk AKA Jabiru, a Barn Owl and a Brahminy Kite. Bustard Jabiru          This Barn Owl flew silently over our heads.         Then we went to the nocturnal house, there were a bunch of bats and one of them was tiny.
