Day 135/136 - Girraween National Park
Day 135 - Thursday - 1/10/2026
NSW 8:34
Today we said goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa as there were only a few days left on the trip and they were going home a different way to us. Then we left Toowoomba and drove to a caravan park half an hour out of Girraween National Park in a nice caravan park that had lots of birdlife. We set up the vans and then drove into the National park where we went on a 4km walk to the top of the Pyramid. It started of slowly heading up the mountain through the scrub until we reached the very steep climb up the slippery granite peak.
Climbing to the peak of the Pyramid
There was nothing to hold on to other than rocks and some points of the climb where a bit scary. Once we reached the top, we had a spectacular view of all the mountain ranges around us.

There were also heaps of Cunningham's Skinks at the top, they were quite big!
These guys were everywhere.
The climb back down was much less tiring but a bit more difficult as we were trying to not go to fast. On the way back to the cars, we took a slightly different route via the Granite Arch which was a massive arch made naturally from the granite rocks.

Day 136 - Friday - 2/10/2026
Today we drove back into Girraween and went on a nine-kilometre walk to the top of Castle Rock and to the Sphinx and Turtle Rock. The walk yet again started slowly going upwards through the scrub until we reached the granite slope which we had to climb.
One part of the climb was pretty narrow.
It wasn’t nearly as hard as the climb to the top of the Pyramid but still very strenuous and tiring. Once we reached top of Castle rock, we had another great view, and we could see the pyramid.

After we got back down from Castle Rock, we walked 1.7km to the Sphinx which was a huge rock that kind of looked like a Sphinx.

Then we walked to the nearby Turtle Rock that we were able to climb up a little.

After that we walked the 3.7km back to the car where we then drove 5 minutes to a nearby shop called Heavenly chocolate where we had some delicious chocolate and some cold milkshakes.
Day 137 - Saturday - 3/10/2026
Today we left Girraween and started heading on the final stretch home and crossed the NSW (New South Wales) border at 8:34AM. We stopped for lunch at Dangar Lagoon where there were heaps of waterbirds. We stayed overnight in the nice campground at Coolah for our last night in the caravan.
Welcome home after your amazing adventure. Joy
