Day 122 - Carnarvon Gorge
Day 121 - Thursday - 17/9/2026
Today we left Emerald and drove to Canarvon Gorge where we set up and went for a walk along the river to see if we could see a platypus. We saw a small turtle and a snake swimming in the water but no platypus.
Day 122 - Friday - 18/9/2026
Today we went on the longest walk yet on the holiday that was approximately 14km through Carnarvon Gorge. We started the walk almost instantly with a creek that we had to cross multiple times on the walk as it flowed through the verry middle of the gorge.

At points in the walk, it was hard to distinguish being in the gorge because of its wide walls, despite having huge, tall walls the trees followed the steep climb leading to cliffs shotting strait up waking it had to see the walls considering being in the lower parts of the gorge most of the walk. First, we walked to the Amphitheatre which we had to climb some ladders to get to.

Once we were hit with the cool air of the Amphitheatre there was a change of vegetation which now had replaced pandanas and long brown grass with lush ferns all over the place. Proceeding on the walk we crossed the creek a few more times leading up to the Art Gallery containing lots of Aboriginal rock art of handprints, boomerangs and other interesting things.

The lush cool surrounds were a big contrast to the surrounding area.

Finally, we walk the remaining 2.8km back to the visitor area and drove back to the caravans where we all had a rest after the long day.
It looks like a challenging walk. You are all having a wonderful trip. Joy
