Day 114/115 - Daydream Island
| Us at the lookout |
In the afternoon we went to the Coral Restoration Talk where we were told about a cyclone that came through in 2017 and destroyed all the reef. The members of daydream island are trying to restore the reef buy collecting fragments of coral and attaching them to structures until the regrow and are ready to be released into the wild. At the talk the guy gave us some magnifying glasses to look at the regenerating coral with.
Today was our second last breakfast buffet which shortly after at 10:45 me and Seb participated in the Stingray Splash where we got to pat and feed some slimy stingrays and shovel nose rays. Both of the two types of rays where slimy except for the shovel shaped nose on the shovel nose rays which were hard.
Shovelnose Ray
The stingrays where a lot easier to feed and pat too because they swam closer to the surface of the water unlike the shovel nose rays which swam closer to the ground and went over the top of each other and sometimes tried to swim through your legs.
There were also a lot more shovelnose rays (approximately 10) than stingrays which there was only 2 of. Afterwords we had lunch and then Me, Dad and Mum went snorkelling at lovers cove but the visibility was a lot worse than the first day we were here. Soon we went for a walk along the rocks where we saw some interesting creatures and coral.
