Day 91 - The Crystal Caves

 Day 91 - Monday - 17/8/2026

Today we left Cairns and drove to Atherton where we drove into the Crystal Caves. At the check in we bought some tickets and were given a head torch each, then we went into the man-made cave where we looked at real crystals from all over the world.

A man called Rene from the Netherlands had a passion for minerals and crystals and when he was in Australia, he found a super big piece of Agate which gave him the idea of the crystal caves. He discovered a great place to find crystals was South America and there was even some crystals form Peru which is where my mum was born.

After walking around in the caves for a while we found the main attraction of the caves, the huge 3 metre amethyst geode that was discovered in Urugay in 2007 and at the time was known as the biggest piece of Amythyst in the world.

Once we finished looking at all the different crystals Me and Seb got to crack open a Geode which was super shiny on the inside.

After the crystal caves we drove to Hastie's Swamp where we looked at a bunch of birds. 

Hastie's Swamp - This log was popular and has a darter, cormorant, ducks, egrets, spoonbills and a turtle on it!

The caravan park also had a lot of birds and at nigh we went looking for animals and saw three possums.

Day 65 - Zebedee Springs

  Day 65 - Thursday - 23/7/2026 This morning we drove to Zebedee Springs and walk around in the hot water. There was a start 300m walk to the springs alongside the lush vegetation and huge cliffs. The springs weren’t two big because a bunch of rocks had fallen down into the springs blocking it off.  A small part of Zebedee Springs The crystal-clear water was super warm, and I found my spot in a rock pool where I built a dam and Me and Seb caught a tadpole. Day 1 - Alice Springs

Hello my name is Daniel, this blog is about my Australian holiday where I will be traveling with my family (Elvia/mum, Michael/dad, Sebastian/Seb/brother), grandparents (Heather/grandma, Keith/grandpa) and cousins for half of the trip (Charlie, Emily, Mat, Suzie).  Day 1 - Wednesday - 20/5/2026 - 5AM We woke up early at 5AM grabbed our bags and hopped in our uncle's car headed for the airport. We got out of the car went into the airport, printed out our tickets and headed through the baggage check were we and our luggage were scanned for illegal items. After we were given the all clear we headed for the nearby cafe in the airport because we didn't have any breakfast and were pretty hungry. Day 4 - Simpsons Gap & Standley Chasm

Day 4 - Saturday - 23/5/2026 - 10AM Today we drove 30 minutes to Simpsons Gap which is a gorge through the Macdonald Ranges which is close to Alice Springs. At about ten we arrived at the gap where we were joined with a park ranger who told us some interesting facts about the area mainly describing the plants and geology. Throughout the walk through the gap, we were on the lookout for the endangered black-footed rock wallabies and near the end we spotted a few jumping around. The gorge was quite large with rugged cliff faces, huge rocks and flowing water from the huge amounts of rain. After that walk we drove another 15 minutes to a place called Standley Chasm where we had lunch at a cafe and then started the walk into the chasm. At the start of the walk, we were walking in a big valley but as we entered the huge chasm we were surrounded with sheer cliffs only about 5 metres apart.
