Day 84/85 - Daintree National Park Cape Tribulation

 Day 84 - Tuesday - 11/8/2026

This morning we drove into Daintree National Park and on the drive, we had to cross a ferry to get across. Normally it would only take 5 to 10 minutes to cross, that’s if you don’t blow a hydraulic hose that lifts up the drawbridge so cars on which is exactly what happened to us. We were stuck there for a solid 30 minutes until the mechanic fixed it and we were finally able to cross the Daintree River. As we were driving through the lush rain forest, we got pretty lucky and saw a cassowary with two chicks and they crossed the road.

After seeing the cassowary, we drove a bit more to Madja boardwalk through a mangrove swamp. Everywhere you looked you could see all different types of plants and thousands of mangrove roots sticking out of the mud.

We didn’t see much wildlife, but we heard lots of birds all around us.

Once we finished the walk we drove to Cape Tribulation where we had lunch. At Cape Tribulation the rainforest went right up to the calm beach which we walked along for a bit.

Finally, we drove to Alexander’s lookout where you could see the mountains, rainforest, ocean, beach and the Daintree River. While we were driving back to the vans, we saw another cassowary with two chicks in the same area as we saw the other one so we thought it might be the same one.


Day 85 - Wednesday - 12/8/2026

Today grandma and grandpa stayed at the caravan park while we drove back in to Daintree National Park to the Discovery Centre. We had lunch at the Centre and then did a bunch of things there and first we went on a short boardwalk to the 23-metre-high canopy tour where we looked for some wildlife but didn’t see anything interesting.

Then we went to look at some of the insects and fish they had in enclosures. After that we went to the theatre where we watched a short film. Next, we walked the cassowary circuit that went along the ground instead of up high and that where we saw a Musky Rat-kangaroo!

Finally, we went to see a 500-year-old strangler vine wrapped around a tree, at the fig there were lots of spectacled monarchs flying around and we also saw a little shrike thrush.

Then we left the discovery centre and drove to a nearby 3km walk that we went on. At the start of the walk, we got pretty lucky and saw a cassowary. The walk went through the rainforest where you could see trees and other plants in all directions. Towards the end of the walk went also came across a Northern Tree Snake.

  Day 65 - Thursday - 23/7/2026 This morning we drove to Zebedee Springs and walk around in the hot water. There was a start 300m walk to the springs alongside the lush vegetation and huge cliffs. The springs weren’t two big because a bunch of rocks had fallen down into the springs blocking it off.  A small part of Zebedee Springs The crystal-clear water was super warm, and I found my spot in a rock pool where I built a dam and Me and Seb caught a tadpole. Day 1 - Alice Springs

Hello my name is Daniel, this blog is about my Australian holiday where I will be traveling with my family (Elvia/mum, Michael/dad, Sebastian/Seb/brother), grandparents (Heather/grandma, Keith/grandpa) and cousins for half of the trip (Charlie, Emily, Mat, Suzie).  Day 1 - Wednesday - 20/5/2026 - 5AM We woke up early at 5AM grabbed our bags and hopped in our uncle's car headed for the airport. We got out of the car went into the airport, printed out our tickets and headed through the baggage check were we and our luggage were scanned for illegal items. Day 4 - Simpsons Gap & Standley Chasm

Day 4 - Saturday - 23/5/2026 - 10AM Today we drove 30 minutes to Simpsons Gap which is a gorge through the Macdonald Ranges which is close to Alice Springs. At about ten we arrived at the gap where we were joined with a park ranger who told us some interesting facts about the area mainly describing the plants and geology. Throughout the walk through the gap, we were on the lookout for the endangered black-footed rock wallabies and near the end we spotted a few jumping around. The gorge was quite large with rugged cliff faces, huge rocks and flowing water from the huge amounts of rain. After that walk we drove another 15 minutes to a place called Standley Chasm where we had lunch at a cafe and then started the walk into the chasm. At the start of the walk, we were walking in a big valley but as we entered the huge chasm we were surrounded with sheer cliffs only about 5 metres apart.
