Day 64 - El Questro Gorge

Day 64 - Wednesday - 22/7/2026

Today we drove into El Questro Gorge on the nicely graded road where we went on an extremely difficult walk. The walk started almost straight away in the gorge along the river where we instantly had to cross creeks. It was taking a while because we were trying to keep our shoes dry so we decided to put our crocs on and that made the whole walk a lot faster because we could then walk in the water.

A bit later we reached the halfway pool which is where the shorter walk returned and now we would have to wear our crocs to proceed on the long walk because we had to cross water up to our stomachs and then climb a massive boulder which was extremely difficult especially for Seb who wasn’t tall enough and grandpa who has dodgy knees.

From here on the walk increased in difficulty by about 5 times. In the gorge there was a lot of lush plant life because of all of the water, the walls were covered in ferns and other life and in some spots water was dripping down onto us from the top of the gorge.

Along the walk we had to climb many more boulders and right near the end we had to climb what essentially was a wall with a waterfall.

We finally arrived at Mac Micking Waterhole where we were rewarded with a swim in the cool waterhole where we swam under the waterfall and me and Seb tried to make a boat out of a log with another kid.

Then we had to walk back down the boulders and rocks through the creeks and all the way back to the car, in total it took us 5 hours and 41 minutes despite the walk being about 4 and a half kilometres. On the drive back we got pretty lucky and saw two Brolgas.
