Day 56 - Keep River

Day 55 -Monday - 13/7/2026

Today we left Victoria River Roadhouse and drove to Keep River National Park. At keep River we stopped at the visitor's centre where we walked to a billabong where there were a few ducks and egrets. Then we set up camp at our site and then went on the Janemoom Walk which went through a large canyon to some rock art that was under a precarious overhang that looked like it could fall any moment.

As we were walking back to the cars Seb almost stepped on a snake that we had to move with a stick, luckily it was only a Children’s Python which are not venomous.

Day 56 - Tuesday - 14/7/2026

This morning we got up and went on a 7km walk to the Jarnem lookout and through Nigli Gap. The start of the walk was out in the open alongside the vast, tall grassy fields along with a lot of trees. As we got further down the trail it became windier and it was the windiest at the lookout where we could see all the massive dome around us that we would soon be walking towards and next to.

Once we reached the domes there was a little bit of rock art on the rugged walls of the rock that we had a look at.

We walked on until we reached a large chasm with a huge window and hundreds of butterflies fluttering around us.

From there on most of the walk was the same so we pushed on back to the caravans.


Day 57 - Wednesday - 15/7/2026

This morning we got up reasonably early to pack up the caravans and then drove to a ranger guided walk called the Goorrandalng Walk. We met the ranger and then we started walking up the steep sandstone rock, along the way the ranger told us some things about what rangers do including fire, wildlife, weed and other different types of management. Once we got to the top lookout, we could see all the escapements and surroundings.

Then the rangers left us, so we finished the walk through the scrub alongside the huge rocks. After completing the walk, we started to drive to Kununurra in Western Australia (WA).

Crossing through the border we had to go through a quarantine station and hand over all our honey and fruit because they might carry diseases that are in the NT but not WA. We were camped at the Lily Lagoon Resort, so we went for a swim and then had a look at the lagoon and saw a Jacana and a few other water birds like cormorants.  There is heaps of birdlife in general here at the resort.

Day 65 - Zebedee Springs

  Day 65 - Thursday - 23/7/2026 This morning we drove to Zebedee Springs and walk around in the hot water. There was a start 300m walk to the springs alongside the lush vegetation and huge cliffs. The springs weren’t two big because a bunch of rocks had fallen down into the springs blocking it off.  A small part of Zebedee Springs The crystal-clear water was super warm, and I found my spot in a rock pool where I built a dam and Me and Seb caught a tadpole. Day 1 - Alice Springs

Hello my name is Daniel, this blog is about my Australian holiday where I will be traveling with my family (Elvia/mum, Michael/dad, Sebastian/Seb/brother), grandparents (Heather/grandma, Keith/grandpa) and cousins for half of the trip (Charlie, Emily, Mat, Suzie).  Day 1 - Wednesday - 20/5/2026 - 5AM We woke up early at 5AM grabbed our bags and hopped in our uncle's car headed for the airport. We got out of the car went into the airport, printed out our tickets and headed through the baggage check were we and our luggage were scanned for illegal items. After we were given the all clear we headed for the nearby cafe in the airport because we didn't have any breakfast and were pretty hungry. Day 4 - Simpsons Gap & Standley Chasm

Day 4 - Saturday - 23/5/2026 - 10AM Today we drove 30 minutes to Simpsons Gap which is a gorge through the Macdonald Ranges which is close to Alice Springs. At about ten we arrived at the gap where we were joined with a park ranger who told us some interesting facts about the area mainly describing the plants and geology. Throughout the walk through the gap, we were on the lookout for the endangered black-footed rock wallabies and near the end we spotted a few jumping around. The gorge was quite large with rugged cliff faces, huge rocks and flowing water from the huge amounts of rain. After that walk we drove another 15 minutes to a place called Standley Chasm where we had lunch at a cafe and then started the walk into the chasm. At the start of the walk, we were walking in a big valley but as we entered the huge chasm we were surrounded with sheer cliffs only about 5 metres apart.
