Day 15 - Desert park

Day 13 - Monday - 1/6/2026

Today we packed up our things and went back to Alice Springs, in the afternoon we did schoolwork and had a swim. The caravan park was jam packed with people for the Finke Desert Race and the first time we went to the pool there was no one there except us but this time there was way more people.

Day 14 - Tuesday - 2/6/2026

Today we didn't do much, we just did schoolwork and washed the car and finally fixed my watch.

Day 15 - Wednesday - 3/6/2026

Today we drove to the Alice Springs Desert Park which had lots of big and small animals that live in the desert. We got there at about 9AM just intime for the nocturnal house talk so we rushed in through the gate to the Nocturnal House. When we got there, we met one of the guides at the park who brought us through the Nocturnal House and told us some facts about the animals like how the Thorny Devil shakes it's body when its walking to make birds of prey think it's a leaf blowing in the wind, then she showed us a few more animals like the Echidna until the talk was over and she had to go over and do the Dingo talk which we also went to.

Thorny Devils

At the Dingo talk she told us some facts about them like how they travel in packs sometimes even with regular dogs and how they usually live 10 to 12 years of age.

After that talk we went to the Bird Show which was by far the best part of the wildlife park. It had lots of birds of prey that were fed meat in the sky like the Whistling Kite, Black Kite, Black-Breasted Buzzard and the Brown Falcon, the person running the show even got the Buzzard to crack open an emu egg with a rock which Buzzards do themself! In the show there was also a Tawny Frogmouth sitting up on a branch in the stands who wasn't part of the show, they also showed the Bush Stone Curlew in the show which sounded like a screaming baby. During the show there was also this Willie Wagtail named Bruce hanging around the host of the show and even though he technically wasn't part of the show she still fed him.

After that we started wandering around the park looking at the native animals like the Red Kangaroo and the Emus. Then we went back to the Nocturnal House where we looked at all the animals this time, there was a lot of them ranging from Spinifex Hopping Mouse to the Bush Stone Curlew to the Bilby. Some of my favourite animals were the Thorny Devil, Echidna and Quoll.

Then we went out and looked at some more animals and went into the bird aviaries where we saw animals like the Black Cockatoo.

Once we had seen all the animals, we watched a 20-minute movie called Changing Heart which was all about how the Macdonald Ranges changed over time. Then we went home and about an hour later drove back out again to have dinner at a Thai restaurant called Q Eats. We ordered pad Thai, fried rice, coconut rice, cashew chicken, duck curry, a mixed entree, pork salad and mussaman. The food tasted super good I especially loved the fried rice and pad Thai. After our delicious dinner we sadly had to go back home.
